We Walk the Talk!
Conservation projects that we Support

And since then . . .

Serengeti Lion Conservation Program - Tanzania - Every trip to the Serengeti we leave a healthy deposit for Meggan Craft! She has fixed a much needed Land Rover and purchased at least 2 collars for their amazing work. Meggan always has time to talk to us which we thoroughly enjoy - even if we are inhaling our lunch while listening (well we got caught up watching cheetahs on a kill last time)!

Kadjiado Girls School - Kenya - Again, every trip to Kenya we visit this wonderful school. NETT clients have brought everything from books, toothbrushes, school supplies and clothes. Some have personally donated large amounts (you know who you are and thank you!) as have various Rotary Clubs spearheaded by their members. We are very proud of your contributions and know the girls have and continue to - benefit - Asante Sana!

Cheetah Conservation Fund - Kenya and Namibia - A favorite of Carol's! She speaks at schools and Seniors Homes in the Calgary area and they say thank you by contributing to CCF which helps cheetah conservation.

Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage - Nairobi, Kenya - A special place! Every group going to Kenya stops there and are treated to a visit with the babies . . . AND Daphne - lucky us! There is a flurry of adoptions and t-shirt purchases - all going to the little gaffers that need our help.

Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund - Rwanda - Nature Encounters Tours & Travel is keen to support Gorilla Conservation right at the source. Our donations have helped the trackers and rangers protect this endangered primate.

Tikki Trust - Zimbabwe - A new find! We all know Zimbabwe is having a rough time so to help with conservation projects is very special. We found Tikki Hywood Trust - an amazing woman who is trying to keep some precious species alive and well - check it out - www.tikkihywoodtrust.com

Schools and Villages in Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, Zimbabwe - Everywhere we go - we visit schools and villages. NETT groups alwyas come prepared with school supplies for all the kids and they are forever grateful! Good work guys!

2002 – Donations

The Friends of the Galapagos – a hand delivered in February. A financial donation that came from all of you who attended any Petersen Photography or Nature Encounters Tours & Travel slide shows!

Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage – another hand delivered financial donation. I know the Homan’s adopted a baby ele as well as some of the rest of the May 2002 group put a bit in the donation box.

AIC Kajiado Girls School, Kenya and The Children for Children’s Orphanage in Arusha received some really great clothing and school supplies thanks to the May 2002 group, Chris of the High Country News in Bragg Creek, Cheryl of Bragg Creek Video and The Bragg Creek Ladies Auxiliary – I live in such a great community!

A Maasai Village between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti got some of the best stickers and school supplies as well as some financial help from the May 2002 gang too. By the way, since I visited there in September I noticed some wonderful changes – new desks and uniforms for the kids!

Jane Goodall Chimp Research Team – how such a small group can make such an impact – Gayl, Holly and Randy were incredible. I brought Canon printer cartridges so together we helped make a difference. An update – those donations last year worked – saw the new fridge/freezer!

Cheetah Conservation Fund
– Gizzy So Close (16x24) is making her way (thanks to our special courier Carl Hilker) to Windhoek, Namibia for a fundraising silent auction! More coming for Laurie and her hard work in November in Calgary (see Slide/Video shows).

And we’re not done yet . . . .

2001 – Donations

The Friends of the Galapagos
A donation from a Petersen Photography slide/video presentation held in Bragg Creek by Mountain Bistro (another collaborative slide show coming in October too!)

Schools in Kenya and Tanzania
will benefit from Nature Encounters Tours & Travel clients as they bring supplies for the local folks. AND . . . the students at Banded Peak School in Bragg Creek are putting together some items for Carol to take with her in May (photo of Maasai folks enjoying a frizbee!)

DAPHNE SHELDRICK’S ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE Again we were able to leave a financial donation to help with the upbringing of the little tykes we saw as well as helping their anti-snare projects too. The personal visits with Daphne are always a treat for the groups!

SERENGETI LION RESEARCH , TANZANIA
Our group were treated to a dynamite lecture from a fellow Canadian studying lions and in turn helped out with a small donation to “feed a starving researcher”.

JANE GOODALL CHIMP RESEARCH TEAM – GOMBE STREAM RESERVE, TANZANIA To sit in Jane Goodall’s home and hear her team talk about the history and ongoing research was magical. All 3 groups donated to the hopeful purchase of a freezer to the precious data collected from the chimps.

CHEETAH CONSERVATION FUND - NAMIBIA
A donation from the Sept. group, big gift shop $$$$$ and a number of “Gizzy” photographs (to be sold in the CCF gift shop) were left behind at the Cheetah Conservation Fund this year. We had a great day with Chewbaka (see the Safari Report) and got fully into the conservation of these wonderful cats.

AIC KAJIADO GIRLS SCHOOL, KENYA AND THE JACOB BASSON SCHOOL, NAMIBIA were treated to financial donations as well as school supplies and clothing. We saw some pretty happy smiles – most came from our group’s that had a chance to tour the schools, meet the teachers and hear the kids sing! Love those Rotary guys in Ontario! Thanks for the HUGE help!
